Anastomosis coloanal side-to-end. Definition

Medical Definition: Anastomosis coloanal side-to-end

A surgical procedure in which the side of the colon is attached to the anus after the rectum was removed. A small pouch is formed with a section of colon about 2 inches long to replace the function of the rectum and store stool until it can be removed. This procedure is similar to the anastomosis coloanal J-shaped pouch, but it forms a much smaller bag.
