Instrument thin tube with a light and a lens for viewing. You can also have a tool to remove tissue for examination under a microscope for signs of disease. The bronchoscope is inserted through the nose or mouth. Used to examine the airways of the lungs or tracheobronchial tree and to detect cancer or to perform some treatment procedures. During the procedure a microscope is inserted through one nostril until it reaches the trachea or bronchi through the throat. The microscope is used also allows the doctor to collect lung secretions and lung tissue for biopsy of tissue specimens.
