Protein involved in normal cell growth. Found in some types of cancer cells, including those of the breast and ovaries. Cancer cells that are removed from the body can be tested for the presence of c-erbB-2 to help decide the best type of treatment. The c-erbB-2 is a type of receptor tyrosine kinase. Also called HER2/neu receptor 2 human epidermal growth factor and human EGF receptor 2.
