CRS. Definition

Medical Definition: CRS

Type of radionuclide scan used to find carcinoid tumors and other cancers. The radioactive octreotide, a drug similar to somatostatin, is injected into a vein and travels through the bloodstream. The radioactive octreotide attaches to tumor cells that have receptors for somatostatin. A radiation-measuring device detects the radioactive octreotide, and creates images that show the location of the body where the tumor cells. Also called somatostatin receptor scintigraphy and octreotide scintigraphy.
