Medical Definition: Chamberlain procedure

A procedure in which a tube is inserted into the chest to see tissues and organs in the area between the lungs and between the breastbone and heart. The tube is inserted through an incision (cut) near the sternum. Usually, this procedure is used to obtain a tissue sample from the lymph nodes in the left chest. Also called anterior mediastinotomy.
