Complementary therapy. Definition

Medical Definition: Complementary therapy

Treatment used in addition to standard therapy. Some complementary therapies may help relieve certain symptoms of cancer, relieve side effects of standard cancer treatment or improve the patient's sense of wellbeing. Other measures have not been tested and may represent a hazard or cause problems with conventional cancer treatment. The American Cancer Society recommends that patients considering the use of any alternative or complementary therapies they check with any member of your health care team.
