Method used to collect cells from milk ducts of the breast. A catheter (tube) the size of hair on the nipple and releases a small amount of salt water in the canal. The water picks up breast cells and extracted. The cells are examined under a microscope. Ductal lavage can be used in addition to clinical breast examination and mammography to detect breast cancer.
