Medical Definition: Endocarditis

A condition in which tissue lining the inside of the heart and heart valves are inflamed (red and swollen). Endocarditis can be caused by infection by microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi in these tissues, may occur as a result of the same, broken strings and valve elements. It is a serious disease that requires prolonged antibiotic treatment.
