In clinical trials, refers to a drug (and that includes a drug, dose, combination or new route of administration) or procedure that has undergone basic laboratory testing and received approval of the Administration Food and Drug Administration (FDA, for its acronym in English) to be evaluated in human subjects. The FDA may approve a drug or procedure for their administration in case of a disease or condition, but can be considered experimental in other diseases or conditions.
