Medical Definition: Extracorporeal photopheresis

A procedure that removes blood from the body and treated with ultraviolet light and drugs that are activated by exposure to light. The blood then re-injected into the body. It is being studied for the treatment of some diseases of the blood and bone marrow, and graft versus host disease (GVHD, for its acronym in English. Also called photopheresis.
