Ocular involvement that often accompanies hyperthyroidism in Graves' disease. In its complete form is characterized by periorbital edema, eyelid retraction, exophthalmos and ophthalmoplegia. Can progress to congestive ophthalmopathy or exophthalmos evil, in which case it may affect visual acuity by compression of the optic nerve.
