Medical Definition: HNP

Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria. A rare disorder in which certain proteins the immune system destroys red blood cells. Symptoms include blood clots and urine red or brown in the morning. Aplastic anemia (decreased production of blood cells) can lead to the HNP and people with PNH are at increased risk of acute myelogenous leukemia. Also called paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria.
