Hematopoietic system. Definition

Medical Definition: Hematopoietic system

Set of cells in the bone marrow, blood and lymphoid system. They have a common origin in a cell known as pluripotent. The primary or pluripotent cell gives rise to different cell lines, including the red (erythrocytes), white line (defense system cells) and platelets. There are factors that stimulate cells in the bone marrow for the formation of new blood cells (growth factors). The hematopoietic system is responsible for removing old or defective cells and replace them with new ones.
