Hydatidiform. Definition

Medical Definition: Hydatidiform

Slow-growing tumor that forms from trophoblastic cells (cells that help the uterus to the embryo from attaching to the uterus and help form the placenta) after a sperm fertilizes an egg. A molar pregnancy contains many cysts (sacs of fluid). Usually it is benign (not cancerous) but may spread to nearby tissue (invasive mole). You can also become a malignant tumor called choriocarcinoma. Hydatidiform mole is the most common type of gestational trophoblastic tumor. Also called molar pregnancy.
