It belongs to a group of related proteins made by leukocytes (white blood cells) and other body cells. Primarily a type of T lymphocyte produces interleukin-3. This increases the number of blood cells produced by bone marrow. Interleukin-3 produced in the laboratory is used in the treatment of cancer as a biological response modifier to boost the immune system. Interleukin-3 is a type of cytokine. Also called IL-3.
