Corticomedullary junction. Definition
Medical Definition: corticomedullary junction
Union of the cortex with the medulla of the kidney. The boundary between the two is clear from the difference in color: the bark is darker than the core. In humans, the bone is divided between 8 and 18 striated conical masses called renal pyramids, and its base is in the corticomedullary region and the apex extending into the renal pelvis to form the papilla. The crust has a thickness of one centimeter (contains most of the glomeruli) and extends between the pyramids, to form the columns of Bertin.
