Peripheral nervous system involvement or self as a result of complications arising from diabetes mellitus. Peripheral neuropathy may be sensory, motor or mixed and affect one nerve (mononeuropathy) or a group of nerves in a more diffuse. The autonomic neuropathy may affect sympathetic or parasympathetic system, resulting in orthostatic hypotension, arrhythmias, bladder atony, impotence coeundi and gastrointestinal motility disorders, among other symptoms.
