Natural therapy for the gallbladder and for gallstones

Composition of gallstones

Calculus in the gallbladder generally form in the gallbladder but can also be found at any level of the biliary tract, calculus (stones) are composed of cholesterol, bilirubin, calcium and proteins. Stones obstruct the cystic duct and common bile duct and causes an intense colic type pain in the epigastric region or the right-hand hypochondrium that is radiated to the inter-scapular region, right scapular or the shoulder.

Diagnosis and conventional treatments

Diagnosis is done by means of a blood test where colestasicas enzymes will look enlarged (gamma gt, 5´nt and fal) and by means of a vesicular echography where stones can be detected.

The surgical treatment is referred to as cholecystectomy where the gallbladder is opened and the stones removed, it is a simple laparoscopic procedure. Also there is a medical treatment that is used to dissolve stones, by means of ursodeoxycholic acid , but if the treatment does not prove to work the surgical procedure mentioned previously would be suggested.

Intense cholecystitis is the inflammation of the wall of the gallbladder that takes place because of an obstruction of the cystic duct caused by a stone. The pain is colic type pain, there is loss of appetite and weight loss, nausea and vomiting and abdominal distension.Acalculous cholecystitis is produced by an abnormal gallbladder motility that joins a subjacent complicated intense disease of the gall bladder. In this case the base disease is treated.

Factors that contribute to the formation of stones or calculus in the gall bladder
In addition to bad nutrition as we have previously mentioned we have to take into account:

  • Obesity seems to be an important risk factor for the development of stones, above of all in women. Clinical studies prove this. The most probable reason is that obesity tends to reduce the quantity of biliary salts in the bile, which causes high cholesterol.

  • Medications that reduce cholesterol: The medications that reduce the levels of cholesterol in the blood increase the quantity of cholesterol secreted in the bile.

  • A multilevel increase of triglycerides.

  • Estrogens: The excess of estrogens in pregnancy, caused by a hormonal substitute treatment or taking the contraceptive pill seems to increase the levels of cholesterol in the bile and to decrease the motions of the gall bladder, which can lead to the formation of stones.

  • Genetic factors.

Nutrition supplements for gallstones:

Soybean lecithin: Emulsify fats; Help with the digestion of fats.

Taurine: The gall bladder uses taurine in the formation of taurocholic acid, one of the two primary bile acids, that are indispensable for the decay of fats in the small intestine. Taurine is also involved in the secretion of bilirubin and cholesterol in the bile.

Digestive enzymes complex: Helps with the digestion of fats if the gall bladder does not secrete enough bile.

High-potency vitamin B complex: Necessary for good digestion.

L Methionine: Lipotropic acts making the production of lecithin in the body easy.

Antirust formula: They avoid fat oxidation; Deficiencies of antioxidants can lead to the formation of gallstones.
