Saponaria (Saponaria officinalis)

Saponaria Properties

- It is expectorant, diuretic, purgative and colagoga.
- Used mainly in diseases of the respiratory system: bronchitis, emphysema, asthma.
- Also used to relieve gout attacks for its diuretic qualities (oliguria, urolithiasis, cystitis, rheumatism, gout, cholecystitis, hyperlipidemia, prevention of atherosclerosis.
- For external use is used for dermatitis and furunculosis (myalgia, eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, acne, stomatitis, tonsillitis)

Contraindications of Saponaria

- No PLS USE dosage forms containing alcohol to children under two years or people with ethyl.
- Gastritis, gastroduodenal ulcers.

Side effects of Saponaria

- The saponosides have an irritant action of the digestive mucosa. When required prescription, this effect can be prevented by mixing the plant with others such as plantain, marshmallow, mallow.

Toxicity: 0 - 1 - - 3
- Because of its toxicity is not a plant widely used. At higher dosages than those indicated or hypersensitivity to its active ingredients can cause irritation of the digestive mucosa and depression of respiratory and cardiac nerve centers.
- As with any medicinal plants that can be taken in tincture or fluid extract should always be kept in mind the alcohol content.
